Cloud Computing and AI Infrastructure

NSM-IT has been at the forefront of adopting the cloud culture within the college by transforming the on-premise infrastructures into cloud service deployments, leveraging multi-vendor cloud technologies for improved business processes and academic activities, supporting research activities that involve cloud, and driving innovation and experimentation with cloud tools.

Our core team includes members with cloud computing expertise across providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). That same cloud foundation now runs our artificial intelligence workloads: we build on managed AI and machine-learning services - including Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker on AWS, along with comparable services on Azure and GCP - to deliver the AI-powered applications described below while keeping data within UH-governed cloud environments. We also strive for broader dissemination of our work by teaching short courses and through publications.

Cybersecurity

NSM-IT operates servers and workstations across multiple platforms (Linux, Mac OS, Windows) and with a serious focus on the security of the systems and data. We also concentrate on security compliance and strictly adhere to the guidelines as prescribed by UH IT.

Application Development

The NSM-IT Application development team provides in-house application development using AWS, Google, Azure, and to offer solutions and services to NSM Academics, Research, and the Business community. Our work spans our long-running MyNSM platform and a growing set of AI-powered tools that automate time-consuming academic and administrative tasks. Everything is designed, built, and hosted by NSM-IT, so support and improvements come directly from our team and data stays within UH-governed environments.

MyNSM Platform

includes the following web applications: Finance, Reservation, Inventory, Records, and Forms. MyNSM Finance provides purchase order approval process, accounts receivable invoicing and payment tracking, electronic reconciliation, and various user-friendly finance and payroll reports. MyNSM Records streamline form submission processes with digital documents and workflows. MyNSM Inventory and reservation provide an efficient and effective way of tracking and reporting equipment.

Rubric Grader

Rubric Grader is an AI-assisted grading application that helps instructors evaluate student submissions consistently against a rubric. Instructors build or load a rubric, upload student submissions along with the course roster, and the tool produces draft grades and written feedback for each student - keeping scoring aligned to the same criteria across an entire class. Generated grades and feedback are always reviewable and editable before they are used, so the instructor stays in control.

How It Works

  • Build the rubric - create an evaluation rubric in the tool, or load a previously saved one.
  • Upload submissions & roster - drop in student submission PDFs and the roster CSV export.
  • Evaluate - the tool drafts a grade and feedback for each student against the rubric.
  • Review & export - review and adjust results, then export grades and per-student feedback.

PDF Accessibility Tool

The UH PDF Accessibility Tool helps faculty and staff turn ordinary PDFs into accessible, standards-compliant documents. It uses AI to add tags, generate alternative text for images, and set a logical reading order, then checks the result against accessibility standards and gives you a before-and-after conformance report. A keyboard-accessible review interface lets you confirm every tagged element, supporting UH's commitment to accessible electronic and information resources.

Large-Format Poster Printing

NSM-IT has been offering large-format poster printing since 2003. Our Epson Stylus Pro 9900 larger-format inkjet printer uses long-lasting Ultrachrome HDR inks printed on professional, photo-grade paper, resulting in high-impact posters, information displays, and signage.

Multimedia Development

NSM-IT has provided multimedia development services for NSM faculty, staff, and students for several years. We provide professional HD video and audio recording and 3D rendering and animation services ideal for developing media for education. We can handle all your editing, special effects, and post production duties as well.

Additionally, we provide web design and desktop publishing services, meeting with the client to discuss requirements, design limitations, and more. Customers can gauge development progress and provide input throughout the entire process.
