The Energy Leadership Speaker Series, hosted by the Division of Energy and Innovation at the 91ÊÓƵ, kicked off on October 19. The series will feature 12 expert-led sessions in which UH students, faculty and staff will hear directly from top executives, innovators, and subject matter experts from across the energy industry about timely topics.
Describing why this series was important, Dr. Ramanan Krishnamoorti, Vice President of the Division of Energy and Innovation, said, “Even though this is a complex world, there are straightforward ways to think about leadership in the field of energy, to have a clear north star for why we're doing this: it’s an effort to help the community and society at large.
The first talk of the series was presented by Jim Gable, Vice President of Innovation and President of Technology Ventures at Chevron, who spoke on “Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Energy. Krishnamoorti kicked the event off with a discussion with Gable on the energy transition, focusing on its pace, challenges, and opportunities.
Discussion points included examining how large companies work with startups in today's fast-moving technology landscape, the importance of safety in maintaining public trust and reliability, and the evolution of the international supply chain. After his talk, Gable answered questions from attendees and joined a roundtable discussion with UH faculty members.
The next talk in the series will follow on November 2, when Jason Wells, Chair, President, and Chief Executive Officer of CenterPoint Energy, will speak on “Grid Modernization & The Electricity Revolution.
Other upcoming topics in the series will include:
- Energy Leadership in the Next 100 Years
