Schools in Texas and across the country have struggled for years to improve students’ reading proficiency and address shortages of special education teachers. The 91ÊÓƵ College of Education is tackling both challenges through a $1.25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs.

Recent graduates Elisa A. Garcia and Gloria M. Adams earned honors from the Texas Association for Bilingual Education. Their work, which focuses on improving opportunities for English learners in Texas schools, is also set to be published in the Journal of Bilingual Education Research and Instruction.
