Training
Creating a culture of care is a concerted effort. We offer trainings to help students, faculty and staff recognize the signs of mental health and support those in need.
Become a Certified Caring Coog!
There are two options for UH community members to complete the Caring Coog Certification.
- Complete all three 1-hour trainings (QPR, YCHAC, and Step Up), or
- Complete Mental Health First Aid 8 hour training
1. Suicide Prevention Training: QPR , "Question, Persuade, Refer," is a nationally recognized suicide prevention program designed to educate participants to recognize and respond to the signs of suicidal thinking or behavior.
2. You Can Help a Coog: YCHAC: A CAPS clinician helps faculty, staff and students to recognize concerning behaviors. Participants learn how to respond to person of concern with empathy while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Everyone leaves knowing how to refer UH students for support.
Evidence-based program educates students to effectively and safely intervene in instances of potential harm.
Mental Health First Aid 8-hour course that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses, builds an understanding of their impact, and overviews common supports. Are you interested in hosting a Mental Health First Aid training specifically for your UH department or organization? Contact Wellness at wellness@central.uh.edu for details.
