In celebration of American Pharmacists Month, 91视频 College of Pharmacy (UHCOP) student pharmacists showcased the skills, knowledge and services pharmacists bring to their communities during the Pharmacy Extravaganza on Friday, Oct. 16, at Butler Plaza on the UH campus.

The event brought health screenings and educational resources directly to the wider UH community, highlighting the role of pharmacists in preventive care, medication management and patient education.

Student pharmacists provided complimentary blood pressure checks and blood glucose screenings, along with information on seizure first aid, medication safety and vaccinations for tetanus, hepatitis B and influenza. Through these activities, participants gained valuable information and resources to make informed decisions about their health.

UHCOP faculty preceptors included clinical associate professors David Wallace, Pharm.D. ('98), and Bernadette Asias-Dinh, Pharm.D. ('11), BCPS, BCACP, CDCES.

鈥淧racticing counseling and talking to people out in the community is not something we can simulate in the classroom,鈥 Asias-Dinh said. 鈥淲e let them try to answer the patient鈥檚 question and then give them feedback to help them continue to progress and grow as a future pharmacist.鈥

The Pharmacy Extravaganza was organized by the UHCOP chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), with participation from the college's chapters of the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP) and Hispanic Pharmacy Student Association (HPSA).

鈥淭his is our 10th year hosting Pharmacy Extravaganza, and I love that I get to be a part of keeping this tradition going,鈥 said Hailey Trigg, P3 student and 2026-27 APhA-ASP chapter president. 鈥淚t is really important for our pharmacy students to be involved in the community and take what we have learned in class and start applying these skills before we even graduate.鈥
