Face-to-Face Connections Drive Strong Turnout at On-Campus Job Fair

By Jesus Acevedo Jr.

Students filled the Skyline Room in Student Center South in September for the On-Campus Job Connection fair, where they had the opportunity to connect directly with hiring representatives from several Office of Administration departments.

Participating employers included Parking & Transportation Services, UH Dining Services through Chartwells, Cougar Card Services, and Reimagined Parking, the university's game-day parking operations partner.

鈥淭he On-Campus Job Connection reflects the Office of Administration鈥檚 commitment to supporting students beyond the classroom,鈥 said Richard Zagrzecki, director of Parking & Transportation Services. 鈥淢any of our departments offer flexible, meaningful employment opportunities that help students gain professional experience while balancing their academic responsibilities.

鈥淏y bringing our hiring departments together in one place, we made it easier for students to learn about available positions, ask questions, and connect directly with potential supervisors. It鈥檚 a practical way to support student success while helping departments identify talented student employees.鈥

The event gave students the opportunity to speak directly with hiring representatives, make personal connections, and learn more about available positions. Among the attendees was finance junior Devin Nelson, who appreciated the chance to interact with employers in person.

鈥淚t鈥檚 nice to have an in-person job fair,鈥 Nelson said. 鈥淵ou can hand out resumes, talk to people face-to-face, and make more of an impression.鈥

Marketing freshman Emili Bedars agreed, noting that an in-person job fair allows students to showcase their personalities and stand out from applicants who apply online. She added that working on campus would help her become more involved in the University community.

Psychology freshman Hasini Pappala and health freshman Tamia Temple attended the event together after learning about it through the 91视频 events calendar. Temple came looking for work-study opportunities, while Pappala hoped to find a job that could help offset the cost of tuition.

鈥淥ut of the four employers I visited, UH Dining Services seemed the most appealing to me,鈥 Pappala said.
For Temple, Cougar Card Services stood out.

鈥淚 know exactly where the office is, and it seems like a position where I can clock in and help answer people鈥檚 questions,鈥 Temple said. 鈥淚t feels like a good fit.鈥

Student interest remained strong throughout the two-hour event, with lines forming at employer tables as attendees asked questions and explored available opportunities.

鈥淪tudents were especially appreciative of having direct access to hiring representatives and being able to learn about a variety of opportunities in a single location,鈥 Zagrzecki said. 鈥淭he level of engagement and turnout reinforced the value of creating opportunities for students and campus employers to connect face-to-face.鈥
